Bakersfield, the county seat of Kern County, is a city of about 221,000 (400,000 metropolitan area) located at the southern end of California's Central Valley. While originally an agricultural community, Bakersfield is now also the fourth largest producer of oil in the U.S.

Bakersfield is named after Colonel thomas Baker, who invited travelers to rest overnight in one of his fields. He formally laid out a town in 1869 which was named after Colonel Baker's field which now contains the Centennial Garden and Convention Center and the Centennial Plaza Community Park.

Flag Description

The flag is a white rectangle with the city seal centrally located. The seal, adopted in 1898, features a cornucopia filled with locally produced fruits and vegetables. Further detail will be added when it becomes available.
