Flag Description

Orange County is located adjacent to and south of Los Angeles, California. Two famous features of the county are Disneyland in Anaheim and Mission San Juan Capistrano (where the swallows return every St. Joseph's Day in March).

The county was carved out of Los Angeles County in March of 1889 and named for the orange groves that were a major industry of the area. The county adopted a seal on August 5, 1889, which was an orange with a stem and three leaves. The seal was later modified and, in 1968, Laura Shernaman placed the current seal on an orange background surrounded by a flaming yellow sun.
