Santa Cruz County is located about 72 miles south of San Francisco and on the north side of Monterey Bay. It is famous for its beaches and redwood forests.
The flag of Santa Cruz County is a rectangle with a broad white horizontal band on the top half with a evergreen tree. The bottom half consists of five horizontal bands representing the five county districts and are red-orange-yellow-green-blue from top to bottom. The flag was designed by Ed Penniman and was adopted in 1986. Mr. Penniman describes the symbolism of the evergreen on white as "reverence for nature and growth, upheld by a foundation of optimism and unity." (from http://www.santacruzpl.org/history/gov/sccoflag.shtml )
Display of the flag of Santa Cruz County is restricted by county ordinance. Permission was given to me by the Board of Supervisors in 10/2001 for a five year period subject to renewal.
