Flag Description

The city of Newark is located about 20 miles south of Oakland. It began as a landing area for boats carrying supplies to San Francisco using the Bay. In the 1870's it became a major rail center along the South Pacific Coast Railroad and the site of the Leslie Salt works. In the 1950's, when several unincorporated communities decided to unite forming the city of Fremont, the residents of Newark decided not to succumb to pressure of the Fremont group and become an industrial zone for Fremont, but instead incorporated as the City of Newark.

At this time, I do not have much information on the city's flag. It consists of a white flag with a black ring centered on it with the words "Newark, California" on the ring in white. Within the ring is an outline map of the city in red.
